Your mental health matters — and we are so glad that you're here! If you're feeling nervous or anxious about your upcoming session — that's okay! Being prepared and knowing what to expect can help you feel more comfortable and ready. Here are a few ways you can prepare for your session!

Choose a quiet, comfortable space.

Most visits range are about 20 minutes long. Find a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable discussing what's going on. Make sure the area is well-lit and free from distractions. A stable internet connection is also essential to ensure your session runs smoothly. We want you to be focused and have an open mind during your session, so please don’t drive during it!

Get the Zoom app and test your technology.

Before your session, we recommend you test your computer, tablet or smartphone to make sure everything is working. Check your internet connection, and make sure your camera and microphone are working. If you're using a mobile device or tablet, you'll need to download the Zoom app on your phone before your visit to avoid any disruption in joining. At the time of your visit, we will send you a link to join! If you have any troubles, you can always contact us through the in-app message center or online

Think about what you want to talk about.

Your provider will ask you about what brings you to your session! Whether you're already taking a mental health medication, exploring if medication is right for you or just looking to make sense of your symptoms, our providers are here. You can also ask your provider questions like:

  • Is medication right for me?
  • What options are there?
  • Can you help me with a diagnosis?
  • Can I take this medication along with another medication?

Be ready to take notes.

Have a notebook and pen handy or use a note-taking app on your device to jot down important information and action items from your visit. Your provider may provide personalized advice and tips that you'll want to remember and try out!

Stay open and honest.

The success of your visits depends largely on open and honest communication. You’ll work together as a team to support your mental health. Your provider is there to support you, not judge you, so share as much information as possible to get the most accurate and helpful advice. As with all care from First Stop Health, your visits are completely confidential.

Follow up.

After your session, you can review your notes and any materials your provider provided. Your provider will stay in touch with you to monitor your progress and adjust your plan as needed. Be sure to schedule and keep your visit times so you stay on track! If a prescription was provided, you can pick it up at the pharmacy you selected prior to your visit. Our care team is always here to help in case you have questions.

Preparing for a mental health visit doesn't have to be complicated. With a bit of preparation, you can ensure your visit is productive and sets you on the right path toward achieving your health and wellness goals. We're here to support you!
