When it comes to your health, one of the best things you can do is build an ongoing relationship with a primary care doctor who empowers you to make informed decisions.
Virtual primary care is a convenient way to build this relationship via phone or video. Patients love that they can save time and money while taking control of their health. Doctors love virtual primary care, too, because it allows them to see their patients more often and when care is most needed.
Let's get to know one of our doctors. Marta Canfield, MD, is a First Stop Health Virtual Primary Care doctor who is passionate about listening to and educating her patients in order to be health advocates. Read on to learn about Dr. Canfield and her approach to virtual care.
Why did you choose to become a doctor?
I wanted to be able to help women like myself who had gone through frustrating medical experiences including not being heard by my doctors. I treat my patients as I would treat my family. I listen to their stories and make shared decisions rather than telling my patients what to do. I take my job as a doctor (= teacher) seriously and educate my patients so that they can be their own advocates.
Where did you attend medical school?
I attended the University of Buffalo Jacobs School Of Medicine.
How long have you been practicing medicine?
Since 2008.
What is your medical specialty?
I am board-certified in Family Medicine.
Why do you love virtual primary care?
I feel like I can serve my patients better because I have more time to listen to them. Plus it is great for my schedule given I am a mom to my 2 young sons.
What does care that people love® mean to you?
I want my patients to feel respected and taken care of by giving them options and information so they can make their own healthcare decisions.
When you're not caring for patients, how do you spend your time?
I have 2 small businesses: a private medical office and my husband and I own a ballroom/swing dance studio. We are also a big baseball family! We love anything Marvel — movies and TV shows!
