Without a goal, we’ll spend our lives running up and down the field and never score. Setting SMARTER goals makes ideas clearer, improves focus and uses time and resources well. With First Stop Health coaching, we believe that everything starts with WHY. When we meet with a member for the first time, we ask two questions.

  1. Why did decide to schedule your first visit?
  2. How did you choose your health coach?

These help us understand what you want to accomplish, and why you think we can help you.

Next, we’ll dive deeper into your WHY. We’ll create your health and wellbeing vision. Together, we look at what you want to change, improve or accomplish over the first 90 days. This vision opens the doors for our goal-setting session. Then, we’ll design SMARTER goals and action steps that will move you toward the life of your dreams.

What are SMARTER goals?

  • Specific – clearly defined or identified
  • Measurable – trackable, size, amount, how much, how many, by when
  • Action-oriented – willing to take practical action, and forward movement
  • Relevant – closely connected, aligned with values, appropriate
  • Time-Bound – linked to a timeframe between current reality and completion
  • Exciting – Energized, Passionate, Enthusiastic, Positive, Motivating, Empowering, Life-giving
  • Rewarding – Beneficial, Profitable, Valuable, Gratifying, Fulfilling, Fruitful, Satisfying

Outlining goals is one of the most important pathways to success. We use it as a foundation for our partnership. Coaching, motivation, education and support are used during our sessions as we move closer to your goal.

Vision statements and goals are reviewed and revisited often. It’s an important step in achieving your desired results no matter what they may be, or what step you’re on in the process.

How we define SMARTER goals.

Together, we’ll look at the following:

  • Why is this important to you?
  • What are you going to do?
  • Does this align with your overall vision?
  • Will it help you meet your objective?
  • How long and how much will you do it?
  • When will you begin and when will you complete the action steps?
  • At what point will you check the results of each step?

Every goal must have a deadline. Deadlines give you something to focus on, plan for, work towards and celebrate when you achieve your goal. Having a goal that is time-bound sends a message to your hard-working side saying, “We’ll get this done!”.

And finally, during your health and wellbeing journey, we’ll offer helpful suggestions for action steps to assist you in deciding where you want to go. We’ll provide plenty of options for how to get there. And we’ll organize your energies around the objective! This is how we turn dreams into goals, goals into action steps and action steps into achievement.
